The Best Prayer

By Meister Eckhart

The most powerful prayer
which can accomplish almost anything,
and the greatest action a person can achieve,
both arise out of a pure heart.
The purer our hearts,
the more powerful, the more illustrious,
useful, praiseworthy, and whole
are both our prayer and our action.

A pure heart knows no bounds to its capabilities.
But what constitutes a pure heart?
A pure heart is unencumbered, without worry,
and not attached to things.
It does not desire to have its own way,
but is content to be immersed in God's loving will.
A pure heart is forgetful of self.
No work is too trivial to be lifted up
in its power and importance by a pure heart.
So let our prayer be that every part of our being-
our minds, eyes, ears, mouth, heart, limb and senses-
strive to bring us purity of heart.
And let us not cease from praying
until we find ourselves in unity with God
to whom all our prayers and attention tend.

A mind completely devoted to God is
the foundation of goodness for human nature and spirit.
Strive that God should be great in you,
be zealous for God in all your comings and goings.
Hold fast to God
and God will bring about every good thing.
If you seek God, you will find God
together with every good thing.
What you sought before, now seeks you.
What you once pursued, now pursues you.
What you once fled, now flees you.
Everything comes to the person
who really approaches God,
bringing all that is God with it,
and causing all that is alien to God to fly away.

Blessed are pure in heart, for they will see God

Matthew 5:8
